“I painted three interiors at Cutts and Case this time during Plein Air Easton. It’s one of my favorite places to paint. Maybe it’s time for a Cutts and Case intervention.” -Charles Newman

Is there a personal anecdote or experience that influenced these piece?
The location maintains the presence of those hard-working people who used that space for their own creations. I took part in that spirit while painting these interiors alongside the workers and other painters. As a woodworker myself, I feel a connection to the shop and respect the high demands of that trade.

What do you find most satisfying or meaningful about this artwork?
I find satisfaction in the process and development of the painting. There’s a simplicity to the overall design in these interiors, yet there’s a lot going on. I hope to convey the feeling of trustworthy and enduring utility in this space. Someone told me that it reminded them of their grandfather’s workshop, and that was nice to hear.
